FBC Sterling Collaborates with Outside the Walls Ministry-Gainesville for Hypothermia Project

First Baptist Church of Sterling collaborates with Outside the Walls Ministry-Gainesville to help keep the homeless warm through the Hypothermia Program.

Dec. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Sterling, VA – First Baptist Church of Sterling, (“FBCS”) where everybody is somebody, has collaborated again with Outside the Walls Ministry-Gainesville (“OTWMG”) for collecting cold weather clothing and blankets through the Hypothermia Program (“HP”).  “Helping to protect the homeless from inclement weather is one of the goals of Outside the Walls Ministry,” says CEO of OTWMG, Rev. Patricia C. Ford. FBCS will have a collection box inside the church vestibule to collect new blankets, gently worn coats, hats, gloves and boots for men, women and children.  OTWMG and FBCS volunteers will gather at the church on January 5, 2013, at 8:00 a.m. to put together hypothermia food packages for distribution.

An online campaign using Facebook and Twitter to remind the community that when winter comes not everyone has a warm place to stay is one of the ways they are soliciting donations for the program.  Although there are shelters, some fill to capacity and many homeless men, women and children are still on the streets at night sleeping when temperatures drop well below freezing and are at risk for exposure, frostbite and hypothermia.  Notes FBCS pastor Bishop Leslie Patterson Jr., “we know that it is already difficult to deal with the issue of homelessness and while it’s not a lot, we believe that every little bit helps.  A warm blanket or coat, socks, shoes, hat, gloves are the things we all often take for granted until you look in the eyes of someone who needs it; these moments reminds us that our mission does make a difference.”

Bishop Patterson went on to say that “we strongly believe that our partnership with OTWMG is the perfect partner to assist in illustrating our church’s mission that everybody is somebody, and to that end we are proud to be working with their team.”
