Help Customizing Reports in Quickbooks

When using an accounting software such as Quickbooks, one of the biggest benefits is the reporting function that is built into the software.  For QuickBooks there are numerous reports pre-loaded into Quickbooks, however there are many other reports that are available through the Quickbooks family of networks that have been contributed by other people to Quickbooks.  These items can be found in the Report Center, listed under the Contributed tab.  The reports are even broken down by popularity and by industry to help find the specific report needed.

Once you have selected your report to run, and it has been populated to your screen, there are many different ways to customize the report to your needs.  The first step is to click on “Customize Report” in the top left corner.  This will bring your you “Modify Report” window that allows you to start applying certain preferences.  From here you can select certain options such as reporting on Accrual or Cash Basis, how the items are sorted and the date range of the report.

Under your filters tab, preferences can be set to filter out certain aspects of the report to try and drill down to the data that is needed.  From here it is easy to filter out customers who owe zero amounts, or almost any other piece of information that has been entered into Quickbooks.

The header/Footer tab under the modify reports window allows you to customize the overall look and presentation of the report.  These customizations affect items that are printed on the report including the company name, title and date and can be customized in numerous ways.

Finally, the reporting font and numbers can be customized including how you want negative numbers printed, which can be a helpful solution for certain viewers of the report.
