Denver Business Community Taps Local Colleges For Fresh Business Solutions

Dec. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Denver, CO -- December 4, 2012- Two groups of senior students from Colorado University’s Leeds School of Business and Colorado State University’s College of Business spent the day in downtown Denver analyzing sophisticated, industry specific information to deliver comprehensive recommendations to a panel of nine executives from two local firms. The day focused on giving our impending Colorado graduates an experience hard to re-create in a classroom.

Denver-based strategy and management consulting firm, RAS & Associates, partnered with DCP Midstream, a national leader in the midstream segment of the energy industry, to create a case competition that would showcase two of the state’s premier business schools and their impressive student talent in a spirited, head-to-head business competition.  The two firms wanted to not only promote collaboration across the academic, private, and public sectors by connecting different segments of Colorado’s innovative business community, but also to hear and consider any new solutions and ideas these young scholars might produce.  

Each team was comprised of five senior undergraduate students who worked a full day developing a solution to the business problem set forth by the DCP Midstream team. This problem statement conveyed a real-life and complex scenario the organization recently experienced. The teams presented their respective solutions to the panel consisting of representatives from both DCP Midstream and RAS & Associates in a 30 minute presentation that was followed by a question and answer session.  The panel convened to carefully evaluate each team’s proposal and announced Colorado State University’s College of Business team as the winner. While one team left with a title, both team presentations were reflective of their respective college’s distinguished reputations.

The hope is that this event will be the first of many student-focused events that highlight the talent of our state’s college population. For the students involved the hands on experience is invaluable and for organizations like DCP Midstream and RAS & Associates, this type of collective effort is beneficial to their business as well as to the Denver Community.
