By: San Diego Children Discovery Museum The Escondido Charitable Foundation awarded a record-breaking grant amount of $215,000 to deserving programs in Escondido on Thursday, October 25, marking the largest funding amount in a single year by any community affiliate foundation with total gifts now at $778,000 benefiting all who work, live and play in Escondido. An affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, the Escondido Charitable Foundation was founded in 2007 by Escondido community leaders to raise dollars in Escondido for Escondido. The ECF is an Escondido-specific effort that meets the emerging needs of the community of Escondido by encouraging and increasing responsible and effective philanthropy. The Escondido Charitable Foundation allows members to pool their resources to make a lasting and effective impact on the community through grants to benefit Escondido residents. All funds benefit nonprofit programs that serve the community and grant making decisions are made by the Escondido residents that participate as members of the foundation. About San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum (SDCDM): San Diego Children's Discovery Museum’s (SDCDM) mission is to inspire children to learn about our world through exploration, imagination, and experimentation. The museum serves local families, school and play groups, and visitors from across southern California and beyond. The new 6,000 square-foot facility located at 320 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025 has an additional 6,000 square-foot outdoor space. The site allows for exciting exhibits for interactive children's play such as Rokenbok, Imagination Playground, Sensation Station, Keva Planks and Origami-try. New exhibits at the facility include a brand new Explorer Discovery Sailboat with toddler area, newly designed Puppet Theatre with new puppets and a large Imagination Stage with musical instruments and new costumes for kids to enjoy. Upcoming exhibits include Life, Earth and Physical Science Stations, and a wide variety of gardens in the new Children's Discovery Garden, including an edible garden, water conservation garden, native plant garden, flower and herb garden, compost and earth worm farm, urban garden, and backyard aquaponics. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. SDCDM was founded as a non-profit organization in 2001 as Escondido Children's Museum, with the focus of learning through play and inspiring children from newborn to age 12 to learn about our world through exploration, imagination, and experimentation. Admission costs at the new location is $6 per person, $3 for military and disabled, and free for children 12 months and younger. Memberships, group discounts, birthday parties, and spring and summer camps are available. San Diego Children's Discovery Museum is affiliated with the Association of Children's Museums. End
