Dec. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum (SDCDM) received $27,000 to purchase and install an AV system used for the “Escondido Roots Series.” The “Escondido Roots Series” will consist of six free cultural performance events to allow families to experience the richness of Escondido’s cultural diversity. More than 37 languages are currently spoken by students in Escondido schools, and SDCDM will use the Escondido Roots Series to raise awareness of the multitude of cultures represented in the community, deepen civic pride and responsibility, and encourage intercultural understanding and dialogue. This is the first year San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum has received funding from the Escondido Charitable Foundation.

The Escondido Charitable Foundation awarded a record-breaking grant amount of $215,000 to deserving programs in Escondido on Thursday, October 25, marking the largest funding amount in a single year by any community affiliate foundation with total gifts now at $778,000 benefiting all who work, live and play in Escondido.

An affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, the Escondido Charitable Foundation was founded in 2007 by Escondido community leaders to raise dollars in Escondido for Escondido. The ECF is an Escondido-specific effort that meets the emerging needs of the community of Escondido by encouraging and increasing responsible and effective philanthropy. The Escondido Charitable Foundation allows members to pool their resources to make a lasting and effective impact on the community through grants to benefit Escondido residents. All funds benefit nonprofit programs that serve the community and grant making decisions are made by the Escondido residents that participate as members of the foundation.
