Dec. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Dallas, TX -- Mike Mason, Weathermatic’s CEO of twenty years, proudly announces the remarkable goals the Save Water | Give Life program has achieved since its founding in February 2012.

Mike Mason, Weathermatic CEO, founded the Save Water | Give Life program this year to promote water conservation for customers and simultaneously bring clean drinking water to the more than 800 million people worldwide who do not have this critical resource.  In its first year, Save Water | Give Life will have funded several wells in Latin America, is planning its first well-drilling trip, and has plans for many more in the years to come.

Save Water | Give Life was founded after the sudden loss of Mike Mason’s close friend and Weathermatic’s Regional Sales Manager, Matt Piper.  Shaken by the tragedy that struck so close to home, Mike Mason and Weathermatic reevaluated and restructured their corporate values to place a premium on employee well-being, challenges as opportunity for growth, and helping those in need.  When Mike Mason learned of the dire and unmet need for clean drinking water, Save Water | Give Life was born.

Worldwide, more than 800 million people cannot access the 5-12 gallons of clean water they need per day for drinking, cooking, and hygiene.  Women and children have to walk many miles to fetch water, and when they bring it home to their families, it is swimming with disease and pollutants.  Due to the labor of fetching water and the ensuing illness from drinking it, this lack of clean drinking water reinforces poverty, prevents children from going to school, and cements gender inequality.

Mike Mason and Weathermatic realized that the average half-acre commercial property wastes nearly 380,000 gallons of water per year by overwatering, which is more than enough to supply two hundred families in a developing country with the water they need for a year.  Weathermatic’s smart, water-saving products, such as its SmartLine controllers and SmartLink web-based control, eliminate this overwatering for customers, saving this precious resource for future use.

Mike Mason and Weathermatic were then faced with the challenge of getting this clean water to those in need.  As Mike Mason comments on the devastating effects of dirty drinking water, “This situation breaks my heart, and I want to help these people who do not have enough water.  If I could, I would just ship them the water our customers save; but that’s simply not possible.”

Instead, through the Save Water | Give Life program, Weathermatic translates our customers’ water savings to clean drinking water by donating proceeds to help build wells, water solutions, sanitation facilities, and hygiene programs in developing countries.  Weathermatic donates $1 per SmartLink connection per month and 5% of Sustainability Services revenue to non-profit organizations like Living Water International who provide these services to communities in need across the globe.  With several thousand SmartLink connections already in use, and the average well costing $8,000 Weathermatic is poised to fund the building of many wells per year.

Save Water | Give Life has already funded its first well in a village near San Salvador.  In March 2013, a team of twelve Weathermatic employees and customers will join Living Water International and the village community to dig the new well and train community members in good hygiene.  Through this well, Mike Mason and Weathermatic hope to bring improved health, education, economic growth, and empowerment to this village in need.
