One screen to rule them all: The Hobbit in 3D comes to Odeon The Printworks

It has just been announced that The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be shown in 3D at the Odeon Printworks, the only IMAX screen of its size outside of London. The film opens in cinemas on 13th December 2012.

Dec. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- The eagerly awaited film by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman and Richard Armitage.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the first film in the saga; curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of Dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug.  Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever ... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities

The Odeon in The Printworks Manchester is very likely to be chosen as one of the few cinemas in the UK to receive the film in a high frame format which will show 48 Frames per second as opposed to the standard 24 per second making it far more realistic that viewers are used to.  We hope to be able to confirm this very soon.

70mm is the optimum size screen for this film as Peter Jackson filmed it in this format of IMAX camera so the footage will fill the entire 26.3m x 18.7m screen. The Printworks Odeon’s 70mm Digital IMAX screen is the only one outside of London, so there really is only one cinema screen to watch The Hobbit in, only one cinema screen to rule them all…The Odeon The Printworks!

The film opens in cinemas on Thursday 13th December with showings in the 3D IMAX from 11.20am and showings in conventional 2D from 12.20pm

Tickets are priced at £7.80 for adults, £4.20 for children and family tickets are £18.80. IMAX 3D tickets are priced at £12.30 for adults, £9.20 for children and family tickets are £36.80. Gallery screenings are priced at £17.75 for adults only including complimentary soft drinks and snacks.

Fred Booth, Centre Director, said:

“It’s fantastic that our Odeon is one in only five in the entire UK to get this legendary film in 3-D format and as we know we also have the biggest screen so this is the only place to see the film as Peter Jackson intended.”
