Sterlite Copper lays road at Milavittan at a cost of Rs 1.13 Crore

Dec. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Tuticorin: Sterlite Copper has laid a road for a stretch of 2.67 kms from Madurai bypass towards Milavittan village at a cost of Rs 1.13 crore.

Mr.S.T.Chellapandian, Honourable Minister for Social Welfare formally handed over the road to the Milavittan villagers in the presence of Mr.P.Ramnath, Chief Executive Officer, Sterlite Copper and Ms.Gokila, Councillor, Milavittan in a function held on Saturday.

Sterlite carried out the road laying work under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme on the request of the villagers. The road which serves as a route to reach Milavittan village from the highway had become almost impossible to use due to the presence of gaping potholes. The motorists found it hard to use the road for the last four years and even the students of the village used train service to reach Tuticorin because of the poor condition of the road.

Sterlite Copper laid the 2.67 km road with necessary road safety signage, caution boards, speed breakers and road markings. The width of the road has also been increased so that two four wheelers on both the sides can use the road simultaneously. The project was one of the major CSR programmes initiated in this year.

Speaking on the occasion, “The road laying work was initiated as part of our model village project and we have initiated several projects to make it a model village,” said Mr.P.RamnathCEO, Sterlite Copper. He informed that Sterlite has spent more than Rs 3 crore towards community welfare initiatives at Thoothukudi in the current financial year.

Mr.Suresh Bose, Head – Human Resources, Mr.D.Dhanavel, General Manager – Projects, Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head – CSR, Sterlite Copper and Milavittan villagers were present during the inauguration ceremony.
