The undisputed king of tablets is the iPad 2. If you want the best of the best and budget isn’t an issue, then it’s cut-and-dry – get an iPad 2. If you absolutely want an iPad but can’t afford the starting price of $499 for an iPad 2, you can pick up refurbished original iPad and iPad 2′s at Apple’s refurbished store. The cheapest one in the store right now is $399.
Android tablets have been out for a while, but none of them have been big hits yet. It looks like the Kindle Fire may change that – with a $199 price tag, it’s much more budget friendly than the iPad. If you’re just really wanting a tablet, this is probably the one for you. Mashable did a great comparison of a bunch of reviews – go check it out. While the Kindle Fire isn’t an iPad killer, one reviewer had this to say: “It can do 80% of what my iPad can do for 40% of the price.” While you will be able to find deals on tablets for just under $100 this Christmas season, unless $100 is your budget I would recommend the Kindle Fire over any cheap tablet. Also, the majority of the tablets going for super cheap are running Android 2.2 instead of 3.2, so you’re stuck with an older version of the operating system.
