Nov. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- Native of Marion, Ohio, author Allison Bruning took third place in the Erika M. Szabo’s Best Short Story Contest of 2012. Inspired by true events, Field of Grace (the award winning story) brings readers to 1912 Marion County, Ohio where a young girl’s life was changed the day love, mercy and compassion came to the small tent revival.

Bruning originally wrote the story for the Tasha Turner Virtual Blog Tour this summer. After the tour she was invited by Erika M. Szabo to enter the story into the Best Short Story Contest.  A historical fiction author, Bruning focuses on the history of the eighteenth through early twentieth century.

“I find most of my inspiration comes from my family’s history,” states Allison. “They were one of the first families to settle in Marion County, Ohio. My father’s parents were immigrants from Germany who naturalized in 1920. They lived in the states throughout World War I. My father fought in World War II. I wrote about the confliction he must have felt in my new book, Reflections: Poems and Essays.” Reflections: Poems and Essays can be found on Amazon.

Allison is currently working on her Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing for Entertainment at Full Sail State University. She is also in the process of writing a new novel. Bailey’s Revenge, book one of the Gaelic Twist of Fate series, takes place in 1738 Ireland when the Penal Laws discriminated against the Catholic.
