Bent-Con 2012 Is Here! Highlights for 2012’s Gay Comic Con!

Nov. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- The aliens have assembled! The heroes have massed! The dragons have descended! They and a fellowship of hearty guests have arrived for Bent-Con 2012! From Friday, November 30th to Sunday, December 2nd, the latest and greatest convention yet for gay fans of of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Comics, Games, Movies, and Books happens in Burbank, California! Highlights of the many fabulous writers, directors, artists, panelists and events happening this weekend include:

Highlights for Friday, November 30th!

7:00PM - 8:30PM ~ Celebration of Love: Northstar's Wedding Re-enactment and Declarations of Equal-Love! Couples and Cosplayers! Fanboys and Fangirls of Love! Bent-Con cordially invites YOU to take part in the re-enactment of one of this year's most prominent celebrations of LGBTQ love in the Marvel Universe--Northstar's Wedding! Dress up in your favorite costume from the pages of your favorite comics (DC, Marvel or indie... it’s all awesome!) and express your love publicly!  

7:30PM - 8:30PM ~ Professional Mixer! Mix and mingle with your favorite professionals in the biz? Whether you're just getting started, firmly established or well on your way -- this is YOUR opportunity to mix it up with other Bent-Con! Artists, Writers, Filmmakers, Actors and More, Bent-Con style!

9PM ~ Costume Karaoke (til Midnight): Put on your costume and exercise those vocal cords, as we belt out, charm and warble our way through whatever song inspires the feeling. Masks and Capes will add fervor to your singing momentum where we'll drink and sway til the Midnight hour!

Highlights for Saturday, December 1st!

2PM Traci Lords is beaming into Bent-Con! Her sensationalistic past morphed into a bright and bold future with numerous appearances across movies, TV, the web and music. A fan favorite and a bit of a gay-icon, Traci will be showing her latest film, Excision, and discussing her varied and entertaining life!

3PM Television Goes to the Comic Book Store. Join popular TV writers Jane Espenson and her guests, including Amber Benson, Brad Bell, Drew Greenberg and Andrew Chambliss as they discuss how easily comics can make their move to TV... and go back the other way!

8PM Special guest, Christopher Rice! Already the author of four NYT best-selling novels, Christopher has been an openly queer author since the publication of his first novel, A Density of Souls. Christopher will be reflecting on his already impressive career, as well as previewing his new novel, his first supernatural horror work!

9PM Tournament of Nerds! Who will be crowned The Biggest Nerd of Bent-Con? A staple of The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Hollywood where it’s played to sold out crowds for four years, the Tournament rides into Bent-Con for a special queer edition!

Highlights for Sunday, December 2nd!

2PM Sex, Drugs and Superheroes: The Queer Geek Experience Do we live in the Golden Age of Geekdom? Author David Reddish’s new novel -- the first ever literary chronicle of Comic-Con-- address the question of nerd culture’s influence on pop culture and the role of Queer themes and metaphors in the current Comic Book zeitgeist!

4PM Un-Gays in Comics: Not LGBT Creators on Their Work! This panel examines those non-queer, non-LGBT people working in the industry today. How does not being LGBT affect their creative endeavors?  Participate in this spirited -- and very tongue in-cheek -- discussion.

ALL WEEKEND!

COSPLAY LIVE-DRAWING at BENT-CON! (Saturday: Noon - 9PM) (Sunday: Noon - 7PM). Live-drawing sessions happening on the exhibitor floor throughout the Bent-Con Weekend! Bring your own materials or use what's available from Bent-Con to draw, sketch and otherwise be inspired by the wonderful models of Bent-Con!

Now in its third year, Bent-Con promotes, encourages, celebrates and appreciates LGBT and LGBT-friendly contributions to the comic-book, gaming, Science Fiction Fantasy and Horror mediums of artists, writers, creators, publishers, directors, actors, producers and fans, be they works targeted directly to LGBT audiences or the larger realm of underground and mainstream pop-culture as a whole.

But it’s just easier to think of it like a Comic-Con, only gayer!
