Documentary and Short Film Competition begins in Boston

Boston Turkish Festival Film Competition begins on November 29 until December 6th, 2012. A total of 38 films will be screened throughout the competition. Screenings will take place at the Museum of Fine Arts, Goethe-Institut and Boston University.
 
Nov. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- 17th Boston Turkish Festival Film Competition starts on November 29th  and will continue until the 6th of December, 2012. The competition is being held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Goethe-Institut Boston, and Boston University.  

The festival’s opening day at the Museum of Fine Arts will feature six short films, including “Silent” by L. Rezan Yesilbas, winner of Palme d’Or for short film in 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

Other short films which will be screened throughout the competition are Bread by Koray Sevindi, Bridge by Soner Sert, Cacaphony by Murat Duzgunoglu & Vuslat Saracoglu, The Cloud has Passed Over Us by Yasar Arif Karagulle, Descartes’ Hairdresser by Gamze Hakverdi, Departures by Ali Y. Akarcesme,  The Imaginary Marble by Tugce Ozdenoglu, Mirror by Bedirhan Sakci, Musa by Serhat Karaaslan, Nolya by M. Cem Oztufekci, The Lament by Aydin Ketenag, Shift 12-48 by Fatih Ozdemir, The Stove by Mirac Atabey, Ten by Ece Ger, Vanished into Blue by Abdurrahman Oner.

Documentaries of the competition are The Footsteps of Bela Bartok by R. Yilmaz Atadeniz, The Fruit of Darkness by Sila Ozsoy, Home by Ebubekir Cetinkaya,  Hive by Gokcin Dokumaci, Honor by Aysun Bademsoy, I Flew You Stayed by Mizgin Mujde Arslan, In the Game by Aysun Bademsoy (non-competition), It Is No Stain on Face It is Winning Bread by Banu Acar, Kite in my Dream by Gulsun Sarioglu, The Last Sponge Diver by Sibel Gologlu Mesci & Savas Karakas, Life as a Fable: A Narrative by Huseyin Karabey, The Long March of Anatolia by Hakan Tosun, Lucky Part of Kustepe by Alkim Ozmen (non-competition), Monstrosity: Story of a Statue from Kars by Erol Mintas & Taylan Mintas, Oh No! My Father is Retired by Bilgi Diren Gunes, Once Upon A Time by Rodi Yuzbasi, Outskirts of Ilgar by Deniz Sulan, The Past is not in the Past by Mehmet Ozgur Candan, Playing House by Bingol Elmas, Random to Hug the Wind by Huseyin Bulut, That’s Life? by Ozgur Oruc, Waiting by Bulent Ozturk.

A total of 38 films will be screened at the competition, two of which in the non-competition section.  

Festival's founder and director Erkut Gomulu said that he is delighted with the interest by filmmakers and the quality of submissions to the competition once again this year. The competition has been receiving submissions from many countries over the years, including Armenia, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Holland, Iran, S. Korea, Nepal, Norway, Turkey, U.K., and USA.

This is the first  competition organized in North America highlighting works of documentary and short filmmakers from Turkey.  Audience Awards will also be announced in addition to “Best Documentary” and “Best Short Film” selected by the jury.   Members of the competition jury includes Haden Guest,Director of Harvard Film Archive, Peter Keough, Film editor of The Boston Phoenix, and Carter Long, Film Curator of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.  

Main sponsors of the Boston Turkish Arts and Culture Festival are Turkish Cultural Foundation, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, and Turkish Airlines.
