Sites that used SEO tricks like keyword stuffing were the most affected. For regular Google users, they might have noticed that searches performed on Google did not bring an exact match.

Matt Cutts from Google stated that the update started function in late September, the 29th to be exact and while most people thought the upgrade would be a data increase, it was actually an algorithm update. He also informed the press that apart from English, which would be affected the most at 2.4%, other major languages like French and Spanish will be affected, although at 0.5%. In an effort to set fair standards, some tech experts say it has also affected honest companies which did not utilize SEO tricks.
