Middle Aged Men 3 Times More At Risk of Suicide As A Consequence Of Personal Debt

Proving the Samaritans ‘We’re In Your Corner’ campaign is right, Vincent Bond has found middle aged men more likely to experience debt and less likely to ask for help than women, making this already vulnerable group at higher risk of suicide.

Nov. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- This damning research conducted by Vincent Bond found that over 50% of those suffering from personal debt say that they have their debt problems have had a significant impact on their happiness, mental health, general health and personal relationships. The survey found that of those in debt:

·         Over 57% of respondents said their personal happiness has been significantly affected

·         50% have experienced mild to severe mental health or health problems

·         A huge 61%  expressed that debt problems had affected their personal relationships

·         Males between the age of 40-49 are the highest demographic affected by debt.

Males aged between 40-49 have been previously highlighted as the most vulnerable to suicide by many organisations and have been once again in the newest Samaritans campaign (2012 We’re In Your Corner). The organisation confirmed this disconcerting message; males aged between 35-54 are 3 times more likely to commit suicide than females (of any age). In their own research, Vincent Bond also found that females are 3 times more likely to seek help and advice about their debt problems from free counselling services such as the Samaritans, Mind and Vincent Bond.

Personal debt can cause extremely difficult circumstances for those with the debt as well as friends and relatives. Many of those in debt  debt do not realise that seeking help and advice will ellaviate the pressure and can be the first step to solving their problems.
