-- The International Women’s Initiative continues monthly features at its Survivor’s Blog column “Women with Initiative” with Kristy May, the co-founder of Zikomo Bags based in Malawi.
While working with an organic farming NGO in the capital of Malawi, Lilongwe, May launched an income-generating project for the local women who were affected from HIV/ AIDS. Producing and selling handmade bags from local textiles Zikomo Bags is a true business run by the women for the women. Sustainability of the business is as important as building women’s capacities. Zikomo Bags is looking to build partnerships with organisations or businesses to bulk buy their bags on a yearly basis.
