By: GiveIndia The Challenge, an online fundraising event, motivates NGOs, corporates and individuals to raise funds for their chosen cause and get rewarded for their efforts in turn; through a matching grant given in various categories during the course of the event. Over Rs.92 lacs were won by 41 NGOs during the India Giving Challenge. The NGO challenge was won by former champions, Parivaar Education Society, who raised Rs. 81 lacs. They managed to surprise everyone by coming from behind in the very final moments of the competition to overtake defending champions, Teach for India, who raised Rs. 73 lacs. Deepalaya finished third with Rs. 21 lacs followed by Vidya and child who raised 73 lacs. Sachin Tendulkar also joined in on the action through his Twitter and Facebook accounts, raising funds for his favourite NGO, Apnalaya. In total, Sachin’s contribution raised Rs. 1.95 lacs. Teach for India continued where they had left off last year by getting their fellows to raise funds through their personal networks. This model proved more than effective last year and was a huge success this year too. Over 3.026 donors came together to help Teach for India’s cause, which in itself is quite an amazing feat. In the corporate category, Genpact managed to raise the most funds yet again by raising over Rs. 60 lacs. They were followed by Cognizant Outreach and Jardine Lloyd Thompson who raised R. 13 lacs and 9 lacs respectively. As always, the event does raise a lot of excitement in corporates as it engages employees for noble cause. Here’s what one of our corporate participants had to say: We are honored to have been a part of the India Giving Challenge 2012 and are pleased to have provided this opportunity to our employees to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children. Seeing them make generous contributions was at once an exciting and humbling experience. This was truly a challenge worth winning – Archana Raghuram – Cognizant Outreach PMO.
