Metalworking Fluids & Microbial Health Hazards Discussed in New Online Video

The IAQ Video Network releases another educational video about indoor air quality (IAQ), industrial hygiene, pathogens or toxins.

Nov. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate the public about issues that may impact their health.  Their latest educational video discusses metalworking fluids and health hazards due to microbial contaminants.

Metalworking fluids, also known as MWFs, are used to reduce heat and friction and to remove metal particles in industrial machining and grinding operations.  Water-based metalworking fluids can support microbial growth, which can introduce biological contaminants to the worker’s environment.  If these fluids are not properly maintained or changed frequently, contaminants may become established and grow exponentially.

“MWF contaminants can include bacterial and fungal cells or cell components and their related biological byproducts, including endotoxins, exotoxins, and mycotoxins,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “Workers can be exposed by breathing aerosols generated in the machining process, or through skin contact when they handle parts, tools, and equipment covered with the fluids.  We hope this video helps to educate the over 1 million workers who may be exposed to metalworking fluids.”
