-- Gold Medal Squared is the collaborative effort of four of the most successful and experienced coaches in the history of volleyball in the United States. These coaches bring together over 100 years of combined coaching experience, and have been at the top of the game at every level. For coaching, they provide advice on how to coach the younger players, the future of competitive volleyball. In a blog post entitled “Teaching the Young Kids”, the writer explains that one of the biggest mistakes of coaching players from 8 to 14 years old is labeling. This means telling a player that he or she will take on a set position, and only teaching that player to play that position. The writer instead suggests that coaches teach the players how to play volleyball, in all its aspects, instead of limiting that player to one position. When labeling a player to a position does happen, the writer states that this should come when the player is older, such as in a high school or college level.
