Nov. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- This week USA Book News the premier online magazine and review website for mainstream and independent publishing houses, announced the winners and finalists of THE 2012 USA BEST BOOK AWARDS.  Canadian thriller novel 'Depth of Deception: A Titanic Murder Mystery' was awarded 'Finalist' in both 'Best E-book Fiction' category and 'E-Book Mystery/Thriller/Adventure' category of the 2012 USA Best Book Awards.

The year is 1982, and a beautiful young woman, dressed in Edwardian clothing, is found floating unconscious in the North Atlantic with a 1912 boarding pass - for the RMS Titanic.

And so begins the captivating new suspense novel Depth of Deception: A Titanic Murder Mystery by author Alexander Galant. Who is this woman? Where did she come from? Surely she isn’t a survivor of that infamous ill-fated voyage.

Or is she?

The mysterious young woman wakes in a Manhattan hospital with only vague memories. A small locket around her neck identifies her as “Myra.” Myra’s scattered recollections are from the gilded age of 1912 and she finds herself lost in the alien, harsh world of 1982. Edward Hoffman, a respected and wealthy Titanic survivor, is called on to expose Myra as a fake – but the plan backfires and stirs up shocking details in her tattered memory – including the fact that Edward may be her son.

The novel’s subplot is equally suspenseful but based on a true and horrific unsolved murder case in Scotland. Callum Toughill, a British insurance investigator, is assigned the case of a missing brooch that was stolen during a murder in 1909 Glasgow. He is chosen because it was his own grandfather who botched the original investigation.

Galant expertly weaves together two distinct time periods, time travel, and true unsolved murder in Depth of Deception. And while suspense readers will devour the story’s cliffhangers, those who enjoy historical fiction will revel in Galant’s seamless use of historical detail.

Jeffrey Keen, President and CEO of USA Book News, said this year’s contest yielded over 1500 entries from mainstream and independent publishers. Upon learning this, Alexander Galant said he was thrilled that his novel was well received enough to be awarded in two categories.

Toronto native Alexander Galant was the historical researcher for the novel Dracula the Un-Dead, a New York Times Best Seller in October 2009. His short story thriller 'Remember Me' is part of the new Starship Goodwords anthology on Amazon, and his other short story Same Crime Tomorrow is also available exclusively through Amazon. Alexander was also the Featured Author on Polka Dot Banner (Fall 2012).

He also wrote and directed The Missing Piece (Winner Silver Remi Award for Suspense Thriller at WorldFest Houston). Additionally, Galant co-wrote and directed Star Wars: Blasted Behavior (Winner Best Foreign Sci-Fi Film Award at the New York International Film Festival).

Depth of Deception – Galant’s first novel – is also a finalist in the “E-Book: Mystery/Thriller/Adventure” category at the 2012 International Book Awards in New York and was featured in Book Expo America’s new title showcase.

Depth of Deception is available as an e-book from Amazon, Kobo, and iBooks and in paperback from http://www.amazon.com/Depth-Deception-Titanic-Murder-Myst....
