The Institute for Safety and Health Management promotes the establishment of professional standards for people functioning as safety and health managers in the work environment.   To achieve this goal, the ISHM administers the prestigious Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) certification program and the Associate Safety and Health Manager (ASHM) designation.

The ISHM regularly acknowledges the achievements of CSHMs and ASHMs working each day to improve the safety and health conditions for their coworkers and the public.  Just last month, the ISHM presented the ASHM of the Year Award during the National Safety Council (NSC) Congress and Expo to Brian Blondin.

Today, they recognize Ed Loyd, another ASHM who is the EH&S Manager at a Hillshire Brands Company facility in San Lorenzo, California.  When Ed accepted this position five years ago, he immediately began working with the management team to improve the program and get everybody onboard.  The next year his facility won the plant of the year award, this was repeated again the following year.  The end result was a safer facility and an improved bottom line for the company.

“The ISHM is proud to acknowledge the safety and health management achievements of professionals dedicated to improving their work environment,” reported Larry Curtis, CSHM, Executive Director of ISHM.  “The difference that a dedicated CSHM or ASHM can make is truly remarkable.  Professionals who have earned the CSHM certification and ASHM designation have shown that their knowledge and skill sets them apart from others who have not obtained these marks of professional achievement.  Their daily duties, and their role as part of the management function, are what are needed by industry and government agencies today.”
