A common misconception is that engaging in sports and exercise is a personal thing. There are “boring” exercises that can be made appealing, if there is an underlying intent and a perfect motive, in this regard, is family bonding.

Admittedly, today’s world places many demands on parents. But don’t you think that good health for all your family members is unimportant? It should be among the top of your priorities. The good news is that you can ensure the health and fitness of your family and cement family relationships at the same time if you will engage in family exercises.

Family Exercise, Is that Possible?

Yes, it is perfectly possible. Strong family bonds can be achieved by just engaging in exercises that will take only 20 minutes to do. If you are a young family, with small kids that can run only an entire block, then this one is perfect for you. Here are some exercise suggestions and most of them will not cost you anything. But you have to be consistent – to build a strong family bond.

1.    Grocery Shopping A

Park your car at the very rear of the parking lot. Then race each other to the grocery door. Or you can walk fast and see who reaches the door first.

2.    Grocery shopping B

Instead of using the car, ask every family member to walk to the store. This is suitable for those who live about one mile from a grocery store.

3.    Swimming

Swimming is the most fun exercise any family can have. Instead of going to the movies, schedule a regular swimming date with the kids.

4.    Biking

If you have errands that are too far to walk, why not use your bikes to get there?

5.    Walk the kids to school

If your kids’ school is about ten minutes away by foot, then by all means, walk them to school. For parents, that would be a good 20-minute walking exercise (back and forth).

6.    Go for a morning fun run

This will be good on Sundays, since nobody has to go to work or school. You can start with a half a mile fun run and gradually increase the distance in the succeeding weeks.

7.    Play family tag

Playing tag is lots of fun for the whole family. You will have a great time especially if you hear your children’s laughter every time you catch them. You can just easily do this in your backyard and it’s great for fitness.

Exercises to improve your health and fitness need not be boring. Most importantly, these things need not be something that you get to do on your own. Include the whole family in your quest to live a healthier life by encouraging them to join in some fun physical activities that you can do on a regular basis.
