Jill Merriam Dealer For The People Donates to Manchester CT School After Theft

After $20,000 worth of computers were stolen from a Manchester CT elementary school, local car dealer Jill Merriam sprang into action to show the kids how business and community work together, and how those partnerships can create change.
Nov. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Last week, nearly $20,000 worth of computer equipment was stolen from a Manchester Connecticut elementary school in the center of Key Hyundai community, affecting customers, employees and vendors.

Key Hyundai employees (http://www.keycars.com/) heard the news of the Bowers Elementary School theft in Manchester, Connecticut, and alerted Jill Merriam, owner of Key Hyundai of Manchester, who immediately reached out to see what she could do to help.

"I have 2 elementary school age kids (different district), and stealing from a school is infuriating. Technology is a mandatory component of education today, yet so difficult to get funded. And my mom just retired from being a second grade teacher, so I know full well how such a theft can hurt the psyche and spirit of the school, and set learning back," Merriam said.

So what did this Connecticut Dealer For The People do?

She rallied her Key Hyundai team to talk with school administrators and Mary Lou Ruggiero, the principal at Bowers to get the news out, and donations rolling in. Local media, and Key Hyundai twitter and facebook fans in Manchester, Vernon, East Hartford and all over CT always strive to be part of the solution when crisis strikes.

Key Hyundai Visits Bowers Elementary School with Big Donation

A Key Hyundai team of solution providers dropped off a check for $2,000 to begin replacing the stolen equipment at Bowers Elementary, so the kids can get back on line ASAP, and know that their business community is a partner with the schools.

"The goal is this donation is the catalyst to encourage more donations," said Jill Merriam. "Any amount can help, and shows the kids by pooling together our resources and resolve, we can overcome hardship. The thieves can't steal our spirit to work together."

To donate: send any amount ($2, $5, $10) to Patricia Brooks, Asst to Superintendent of Finance & Management, 45 N. School Street, Manchester CT 06042. Note "Bowers computer replacement" in the memo field, and the school will send a tax-donation letter upon request.
