India will always give their best at home series. All that happed this time also the same, India had a firing opening day of 1st test of the 4 match test series. India will look forward to white wash the English as they have been white washed by them in the last series a year ago. Dhoni and his men’s were keenly look to win all the four.
Greame swann was the pick of the bowler for day one. He had used up the slow track very well and also accounted for all the 4 wickets that had fall on day one. Swann had bowled 32 overs and given 85 runs for 4 wickets.
Gautam gambir and virender shewag started up the match very well; they together batted for 134 runs as opening partnership. This was their 1st century stand after 16 innings. And also this was their 11th hundred run partnership. 134 were considering being the highest opening stand by any team at Motera. Both were hitting the ball well through all gaps. Scoring runs against English bowling attack is not an easy task. But this opening pair had showed their class against those bowlers.
Unfortunately gambir’s well made steady innings of 45(111) came to an end by swann’s spin attack. He had gone out when India was 134. Next man into the crease was pujara. This man has likely to fill the place of Dravid in the test squad, had proved that he can do that. His stand of 98 not out at the end of day one was such a classy innings. He kept calm and given a nice hand to sewag who was foring at the other end. They both put 90 run partnership.
Shewag gone out, once again its swann who provided the breakthrough for England. New man to crease was sachin tendulkar. Wickets of sachin and in form batsman kholi fell in quick sessions. England bowlers were looking to finish things in their way. But yuvi, who joined well set pujara at the crease never allowed the session to go England’s way.
