Nov. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- BOSTON, MA – November 16, 2012   Boston tech start-up, Greenbean Recycle, Inc (gbrecycle.com), announced today that they have reached the 100,000 containers recycled mark – a strong endorsement of their revolutionary new Social Recycling Platform (SRP) which promotes a fun, new way to recycle allowing consumers to compare, compete and share their impact through faceback and twitter in real time. The 100,000 containers represent roughly 20,000 lbs. of trash diverted from Boston landfills – about the curb weight of seven (7) VW Beetles.

“In 6 short months after our launch at MIT, we have been able to launch programs at Tufts, Northeastern , Harvard, and Brandeis University and have engaged over 2,000 recyclers to participate in our new program. This is just the beginning of diverting the over 8 million tons of bottles and cans from the landfill” said Shanker CEO of Greenbean.

“The Greenbean Machine is a wonderful enhancement to the Tufts Recycles! Program. We are only starting to scratch the surface of the machine’s ability to promote recycling through incentives such as financial rebates, social media influence, and charitable contributions.” said Dawn Quirk Recycling Coordinator at Tufts University

As a thank you, the company is launching new recycling challenges and promotions where students can win even more cash from sponsors sponsoring “winner takes all” challenges, earn double the value with 10 cent recycling days and recycle to win an IPAD.

Boloco, ZipCar, & Honest Tea are current challenge sponsors. Greenbean is seeking more socially conscious sponsors for future challenges.
