Toll Brothers Group President “Sleeps Out” Then Runs Marathon for Covenant House

Chris Gaffney, Toll Brothers Group President, will participate in a "Sleep Out" on the streets of New York City and then run the Philadelphia Marathon to support the homeless kids of Covenant House.

Nov. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Toll Brothers Group President Chris Gaffney was elected to the Board of Directors of Covenant House New York in 2010, and since then has been a fundraiser and advocate for the organization and homeless youth. Initially scheduled to run in the New York City marathon on November 4, 2012, he will now take to the streets for a Sleep Out and marathon run, with only a few days between the two events, in his continued commitment to the cause.

“My goal is to push myself to the limit for these kids by taking on these events,” Gaffney said. “I have a number of coaches…one for the marathon training and numerous kids from the Covenant House shelter for the Sleep Out.  These kids are genuinely worried about me, which is truly ironic.  The one tough night that I will experience is nothing compared to what some of these kids have endured all of their lives,” he added.

On Thursday, November 15th, along with hundreds of executives from North America, Gaffney will spend one night sleeping on the streets of New York City in solidarity for the homeless youth of Covenant House.  Over 300 business leaders will participate in the Sleep Out which is scheduled to take place in twelve cities throughout North America.  Less than two days later, Gaffney participates in the Philadelphia Marathon.

Gaffney has raised over $17,000 for these events.  “I have been very fortunate to have tremendous support from family, friends, and colleagues.  My choice is simple, sleep in the streets so fewer homeless kids have to, ignore the part of my marathon training that calls for rest and simply push my body to the limit, all to raise awareness and much needed funds to help provide better lives for homeless kids," Gaffney said.
