Coloplast Staff Break Down The Language Barrier
Employees at Peterborough-based medical devices company Coloplast (www.coloplast.com) have been praised for completing a course which has improved their use and understanding of the English language.
Fourteen staff working at the company’s distribution centre in Orton Southgate completed a 12-week course to improve their English speaking, reading and writing.
Supported by the distribution centre manager Arif Karim and colleagues, the employees successfully completed an ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) course. Much of the coursework was completed in their own time.
Arif said: “It’s essential to understand our customers’ individual requirements and provide them with the best possible service. By improving their use of English these team members have shown their commitment to do this.
“Learning and speaking English is good for their personal lives, for better teamwork and for the company. They are now playing their full part as members of the UK distribution team.”
The Coloplast employees who received ESOL award certificates from Arif and business support director Allan Kjer were: Elzbieta Calak, Aurelija Gudaviciute, Virginija Kapaviciene, Margarita Kekstiene, Martyna Koncewicz, Silvija Kurina, Memory Lunga, Olga Majchrzak, Julia Malewska, Magdelena Matyja, Agne Narvilaite, Esmeralda Paudere, Gintare Tenenyte and Marlena Witvla.
Most of them work in the department where ostomy bag products are customised to patients’ individual requirements.
Allan said Coloplast wholeheartedly supports all staff who devote some of their spare time to learn and improve new skills which make it easier for them to provide an even better service to customers.
“We think it’s important to continue your education while you are working at Coloplast. We are very supportive of staff who are keen to learn more and also develop their existing skills.”
He said language skills are essential to build strong relationships with colleagues and customers. “It’s much easier to do this and to get on well at work if we can all talk and share the same language,” Allan added.
