-- Cat lover and Apple iMac fan, Steve Weston came up with a novel idea for his old computer when the time came for an upgrade – turning the iMac into a cat house for his pet cat Cookie.
The graphic designer who lives in Southend-on-
Sea in Essex said, "I had the Mac sitting around for a few years and was about to chuck it out, then I thought I'd try customising it as a cat house." Out went the hard drive and in came a soft cushion for Cookie to curl up on inside the iconic computer's monitor.
"I took all the computer parts out and made it hollow then cleaned it up and put a nice cushion inside. It looks quite welcoming! As a graphic designer I wanted to make something with the iMac as it is quite an iconic red plastic shell."
Cookie the cat obviously agreed and quickly moved in to her new home. "Like most cats she spent the day sleeping or finding a place to sleep, so the iMac was perfect for her. She was using it everyday but, as she's now three-years-
old, she has outgrown it," Steve said.
He is now selling the unique Apple cat home on www.preloved.co.uk where it is attracting a lot of interest from cat lovers.
Ian Buzer, Managing Director of www.preloved.co.uk, said, "It's great to see something secondhand being recycled in such an innovative and unique way, rather than ending up in landfill. I'm sure Steve's iMac cat home will be snapped up."
Steve says that while the retro computer makes the perfect high-tech feline hideaway it, understandably, doesn't come with a mouse!
