Nov. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- (Research Triangle Park, NC) - The North Carolina State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) honored BRI CEO Giles Shih with an Outstanding Alumnus Award during an awards reception held November 2nd at the NC State University Club.

Outstanding Alumni Awards are given to former students of the NC State University CALS who have used their talents to excel in their chosen fields as well as to serve their community, industry, or organization. CALS Dean Richard Linton and CALS Alumni and Friends Society President Gary Upchurch presided over this year’s award presentations, which also recognized Distinguished Alumni and Outstanding Young Alumni.

“I’m honored and humbled to be recognized by the NC State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, given the level of achievement of others who have received this award,” said Dr. Shih. “I appreciate all those dedicated professors and staff at NC State University who have helped mentor me and other fellow students in our chosen fields. I hope the continued success of our company as an NC State technology spin-out founded by NC State CALS faculty and alumni will continue to bring pride to our alma mater.”

Dr. Shih received his MS in Microbiology from NC State University in 1993 and has since used his training and education to lead BRI as it achieved significant growth and profitability. Earlier this year, BRI was recognized as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States in Inc. Magazine’s annual Inc. 500|5000 list.

BRI is a global biotechnology company that offers cost-effective solutions to promote animal nutrition and environmental responsibility worldwide. One of its breakthrough products is Versazyme®, a novel enzyme that increases profitability and reduces the environmental impact of animal production by improving the digestibility of animal feed.
