Salter Art & Appraisals and A.H. Wilkens Team Up To Raise Funds For Community Museum.

Salter Art and Appraisals teamed up with A.H. Wilkens Auctions last weekend to raise record funds with a "What's It Worth" weekend event.

Nov. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- During last Weekend's “How Much Is It Worth “Antique and Fine Art Appraisal Day at Windsor's Willistead Manor Coach House, Salter Art and Appraisals helped raise a record amount of much needed funds for the Windsor Community Museum. Mandy Salter and her special guests, Andrew Wilkens and Andrea Zeifman of A.H. Wilkens Auctions and Appraisals in Toronto, donated their time and their expertise, as they provided opinions of value for over 150 items brought along by Windsor area residents. Patrons were charged a small fee and all proceeds were donated to the Windsor Community Museum.

The well-attended event ran throughout the day with the help of Hugh Barrett, the Museum's Education and Staff Coordinator and a team of energetic volunteers, and was put together by Windsor-based ISA appraiser and fine art specialist Mandy Salter. As well as raising funds and the profile of the Windsor Community Museum, the event let local residents know what their cherished items were worth, and let them learn more about their art and antiquities. It also informed Windsor residents they could auction their higher end items in urban centres like Toronto, New York and London by working with Salter Art and Appraisals and A.H. Wilkens.

With locations in downtown Toronto and Oakville A.H. Wilkens.Salter's major market auction specialist. An established and widely respected decorative and Asian art specialist, A.H. Wilkens has partnered with Salter Art and Appraisals to build auction sales and awareness throughout South Western Ontario. They also add their considerable synergies with their knowledge of decorative, collectible and Asian antiques combined with Salter's fine art, sculpture and works on paper expertise.

“Many people don't realize is that the value of any item depends on many factors like rarity, quality, condition and demand. It also depends on what the owner wants to do with the item and when.” Exlains Salter.“The fastest way to sell something is at an auction where items are priced to sell on the spot for cash. In some cases sellers benefit from a bidding war in others they just get their reserve price. It depends on the people at the auction.”

Art and antiques ultimately fetch bigger auction sales figures in larger markets, especially if they are supported by solid marketing done by a known auction house. “It makes good financial sense to move finer and more valuable items from Windsor to Toronto, New York or London, to get them listed in widely-read catalogs sent out before well-attended auctions.
