PODS® of Albany to help New York Department of Homeland Security’s undercover mission, Nov. 16

Moving and storage company to host storage facility during live canine search demonstration

Nov. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- (ALBANY, N.Y.) – PODS of Albany a moving and storage company, has teamed up with the State of New York's division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services for a live training session as 20 canines from all over the U.S. will search for “victims” on Friday, Nov. 16, from 7 – 9 p.m. at the PODS of Albany’s climate-controlled storage facility. The facility is located at 2 Van Buren Blvd., Bldg. 21, Guilderland Center, N.Y.

The public is encouraged to come and watch the entertaining, one-of-a-kind live demonstration as canines will search for the helpless “victims” in the 28,000 square-foot facility. The “victims,” who are sorority girls attending the University of Albany – SUNY, will hide inside, outside and in between the 60 - 70 safe and secure PODS® containers while the canines attempt to track them down.

“We are honored to be a part of the New York Homeland Security’s canine demonstration,” said David Tracey, general manager for PODS of Albany. “These dogs serve as hard-workers in a variety of conditions and our storage facility has enough space for the canines to train and learn the ropes to help someone in need.”

With the recent flooding from Superstorm Sandy, one of the canines that will participate in the training was able to locate an elderly couple who were still alive in an apartment complex in Long Island, N.Y.

“We currently have six canines that work with the New York Homeland Security division and are excited to get the other 20 canines trained so that they can do a service by helpings others,” said Gregory Gould, New York Homeland Security canine handler. “We thank PODS for letting us use their storage facility for our canines to train and serve as one of the best in the nation.”
