14th annual food drive collects over 3,900 lbs for Las Vegas Salvation Army Food Bank

Nov. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- The 14th Annual Food Drive held at the Summerlin  Smith’s Food and Drug, 2211 N Rampart in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 10 am to 4 pm, collected over 3,900 pounds of non-perishable food items. Philanthropist Mary Vail, OSG, ( http://www.maryvailpublicist.com ) hosts the yearly drive to benefit the Las Vegas Chapter Salvation Army Food Bank as part of the national USA Weekend Magazine MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY, a nationwide charity event.

As tradition with the award winning food drive, celebrities and local personalities lent their support for the cause making appearances throughout the day including: Celebrity Blogger/TV Host Robin Leach, Singer/Actress Pia Zadora, the Fantasy Girls, The More Show Reporter Maria Silva, the Men of Thunder From Down Under, FOX-5 Meteorologist Ted Pretty, TV Personality Heidi Hayes, TV-13 News Anchor Cassie Smith, Author Joe Vassallo and Mayor Pro Tem Stavros Anthony.  Event volunteers including Vail’s husband David and daughter Ashley joined the celebrities in shopping for nonperishable food items to donate to this great cause.  During the Mayor Pro Tem’s appearance at the food drive, Anthony presented Vail with a Key to the City for her philanthropic works in the community.

To date, the yearly food drive has collected over 48,440 lbs of non-perishable foods and personal hygiene items. The Food Drive was recognized nationally in April by the Make A Difference Day organization, Points of Light and Newsman’s Own Foundation as one of 10 notable projects from thousands held in 2011.
