Nov. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- WakeMed Health & Hospitals has been recognized by the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline programs for success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart failure and STEMI (ST Elevated Myocardial Infarction) response and the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry - GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award for heart attack care.

“We have worked diligently to coordinate care across our system and ensure cardiac patients are receiving the right treatments at the right time,” commented Betsy Gaskins-McClaine, vice president, Heart & Vascular Services.  “For AMI and STEMI, it means quickly getting patients to the cath lab for intervention.  For heart failure, it means a focus on educating patients about their condition, providing them with instructions following discharge from the hospital and encouraging the patient to make lifestyle changes.  The result of these efforts is significantly better outcomes for the patient.”

Gaskins-McClaine continued, “WakeMed is committed to leadership in cardiovascular services.  We maintain a fully staffed cath lab 24/7 every day of the year, so regardless of the day or time, patients are receiving the same rapid care and treatment.  Additionally, 100 percent of the cath lab staff are RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) certified. These accomplishments represent the extraordinary commitment of our administration, physicians and staff to providing exceptional cardiac care for our patients, families and the community we serve.”
