Follow on Google News | Addition of Chain of 12 Five Star Hotels Imbues Goa Tourism a Humble PieGoa offers many mirthful nightlife and sight-seeing activities all of which give foreigners their elixir of life. Off late there is huge rush and competition for opening big hotel chains along the entire beach belt.
On behalf of Travel and tourism association of Goa (TTAG), Ralph de Sousa provides, “the upper-middle income group in India is increasing and the economy is showing a positive return back.” This clearly indicates that domestic tourism has tremendous growth potential and high class tourists are likely to grow up over the year. TTAG is also devising the plans in the luxury segments, especially to foray in the international tourism markets. Referring to undue demand of Goa events in across the globe, Ralph de Sousa said, “there are burgeoning international luxury segment visitors, who visit every year to be part of these events.” Calangute, a hot spot of Goa tourism, will soon swank three new five-star properties. A second luxury class Holiday Inn is coming up adjacent to Calangute market. An Intercontinental convention center-resort is underway in Baga, while another luxury hotel with the Marriott brand is scheduled at Khobravaddo. One of the resorts in Baga is undergoing upgradation to make it a deluxe five-star property, and similarly Riviera de Goa in Arpora has been recently upgraded and rebranded itself as DoubleTree by Hilton, the first Hilton property in Goa. If gone by current data there is preponderance of 25 five-star resorts in Goa that have received the certification from the Union tourism ministry. There are also many of the five star hotels, resorts or five-star boutique resorts, but are not certified as such by the Union tourism ministry. 13 of such 5 star hotels and resorts exist in North Goa. Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar on this account said “state tourism department has no much say, since it's the Union tourism ministry which actually certifies the hotels. It is mandatory that all of the building approvals get through the PDA and TCP departments.” Letting aside all the lobbying, three hotel projects in Cavelossim have already secured the necessary clearance from the panchayat. However, the property investors are in a state of delusion in this case, as there is proposed construction of MOPA airport in the area. Investors are deeply concerned that after the construction of MOPA airport, the flow of tourists will swift away from south to North Goa.
