The Husband and Wife Law Team Presents Chandler Teacher with $250 and a Peter Piper Pizza Party

Nov. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- Phoenix, AZ - October’s award goes to a Chandler teacher at Galveston Elementary school, Ms. Mary Lou Hernandez!

Dean of Students, Mr. Chris Reuter, arranged the surprise presentation to take place during a routine staff meeting. Fourth grade teacher, Ms. Hernandez, received many nominations from peers and parents. She has been teaching for 15 years, and has been known to routinely dip into her own pockets in excess of $2,000 a year for her students!

One nomination glowed that she “teach[es] [her students] not only the standard curriculum, but also the importance of honesty and respect for their peers,” and that she says “the best recognition comes from her students.”

Dipping into Their Pockets
In 2010, the National School Supply and Equipment Association (NSSEA) found that 92 percent of teachers spend significant amounts of their own money on classroom necessities and teaching materials.

Over $1.33 billion dollars was spent, in fact, out of the pockets of U.S. teachers to provide for their students.
