Eliza Bozenski, Director of Agency Affairs of Anderson Center for Autism, now hosts the distinctive and powerful weekly program “1 in 88” on Hudson Valley Talk Radio. The show features a variety of interviews with Anderson Center for Autism staff and community members along with a listener question-and-answer-forum. The “1 in 88” name refers to the rising number of children in the United States who are identified as having autism spectrum disorder — their struggles and obstacles, and more importantly, unique developments and opportunities for all who are affected.

Anderson Center for Autism was inspired to create this exclusive radio program by New York state autism insurance reform, which went into effect Nov. 1. Chief Operating Officer of Anderson Center for Autism Patrick Paul noted: “The new autism legislation in New York state is very good news for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families. It provides for increased access to treatments that offer the greatest opportunity for positive life outcomes: applied behavior analysis and other evidence-based therapies.”

Program topics include the new autism insurance legislation; Consultation & Adult Services; guest speaker Logan Walsh on his collaborative art project; Anderson Center for Autism’s very own Special Olympics program, and much more.

Please tune in every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. on Hudson Valley Talk Radio AM stations 920 WGHQ, 1260 WBNR and 1420 WLNA and Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. on News-Talk AM stations 1450 and 1370 WKIP. And now for your convenience, “1 in 88” is available online at AndersonCenterforAutism.org or AndersonCares.org.

If you or a loved one would like to submit a question to be answered on-air, please forward it directly to Eliza Bozenski at ElizaBozenski@acenterforaustism.org or call 845-889-9594.

About the New York State Autism Insurance Legislation
In November 2011, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a law requiring health insurance providers to offer coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This includes coverage of evidence-based, medically necessary autism services that are prescribed, provided or ordered by a licensed physician or licensed psychologist. The law went into effect Nov. 1, opening the door for families to obtain services that were not previously covered. New York is the 29th state in the country to enact such legislation.
