Nov. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- Author-Historian Jay Wertz and Weider History Publications will honor Veterans Day by giving away copies of two award-winning books, WAR STORIES: World War II Firsthand – THE PACIFIC – Volume One – Pearl Harbor to Guadalcanal and  WAR STORIES: World War ll Firsthand:  D-Day: The Campaign Across France.

Radio stations in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts will be participating by offering one book to a lucky listener between now and early December.

Host/Program Director Paul Richards of WHLI Radio will be giving away D-Day: The Campaign Across France during the WHLI Radio 65th anniversary dinner dance on Wednesday evening, December 5th, 6pm-10pm.

Legendary DJ and Philadelphia icon Jerry Blavat will giveaway THE PACIFIC at a dance event at Sugar House Casino, on Wednesday, November 14th, between 5pm and 7pm, which broadcasts live on WVLT Radio.

Broadcast Host Phil D of Massachusetts WIZZ Radio is developing a special contest during his early morning daily radio program and will offer THE PACIFIC as a special gift to the winner.

A special coupon code for a 15% discount on any of the WAR STORIES series of books will be announced during the giveaways. Books can be purchased online via www.HistoryNetShop.com

The WAR STORIES: World War II Firsthand series presents a perspective on the military campaigns and actions of WWII anchored on the stories told by the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and other front line personnel who experienced the conflict.

D-Day: The Campaign Across France features heart-wrenching testimony from those who stormed the beaches of Normandy and Southern France; those who jumped behind the lines, manned the ships and flew the missions overhead in the great invasion of Europe, an event unparalleled in history.

Weider Publishing took first place in the History: Military/Political category of the International Book Awards in 2011 with WAR STORIES: World War II Firsthand – THE PACIFIC – Volume One – Pearl Harbor to Guadalcanal.

Tom Brokaw, of NBC News, recently praised THE PACIFIC – Volume One as “a stunning and evocative reminder of the personal heroism and epic battles over and on seas, island, and mainland, as told by those who were there.  Magnificent."  

D-Day: The Campaign Across France was honored with a Silver Medal in the 2012 Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY) in the World History category, has also been named the winner in the History: Military category of USA Book News International Book Awards.

Mr. Wertz is also the author of three books -- The Native American Experience, The Civil War Experience: 1861-1865 (both now in their second edition), and co-author of Smithsonian's Great Battles and Battlefields of the Civil War. His television credits include the award-winning 13-part documentary series Smithsonian's Great Battles of the Civil War.
