Nov. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- By adding a 5,500 sq m distribution facility at its Featherstone site near Wolverhampton, Mann+Hummel has significantly increased its warehousing capacity. The new facility, located only 500 metres from the company’s existing production site and linked with hi tech fibre-optic cabling systems, will now both look after the aftermarket sales and distribution division for the German Group’s MANN-FILTER brand - the supply of filters to the international automotive industry.

In designing the new distribution facility Mann+Hummel have adopted best practice principles, particularly in the layout of the warehouse and the design, configuration and installation of the racking solution.  This was supported by Link 51, who following a rigorous selection procedure was selected as the preferred partner for the installation, bringing their 60 years of experience to Mann+Hummel’s logistics team.

Being ‘neighbours’ helped the two companies to work together closely to design the best solution for the warehouse, says Mann+Hummel’s Alan Ingram.

“Having storage specialists Link 51 on our doorstep was a major plus,” he explained. “We had advice and direction from the outset and by being in close proximity to each other, we quickly developed a good working relationship.”

Link 51 designed and installed 142 bays, which consisted of 6,300 pallet locations, and constructed a tiered mezzanine structure designed to accommodate an additional tier if required in the future. A secure cage was also installed inside the warehouse for high value goods.

In addition, Link 51 supplied all the personal storage lockers for the staff rooms.

Mr Ingram added: “The racking installation went according to plan and was delivered on schedule. Link 51 worked well with other suppliers and there were no delays from the confirmation of the order through to completion. We are very satisfied with both the product and the high levels of service.”

Local racking expert Tony Crowe from Link 51 added: “Distributions centres on the huge scale of Mann+Hummel’s operation are Link 51’s speciality.  We are uniquely placed in having the UK manufacturing capability, significant design and project management expertise as well as a team of SEIRS accredited fitters that can all deliver to a set schedule and often against tight deadlines. This combined capability and skill ensures customers do not incur unnecessary costs by not opening on time.”

Mann+Hummel employ more than 14,500 people across 50 locations globally.
