Two Scholarship Events at West Sound Academy Give Opportunities for Students to Earn Merit Awards
Students who are new to West Sound Academy and enrolling for Fall, 2013, have two opportunities to earn merit scholarships: a Middle School event on December 8, 2013 and the Founders' Scholarship Day for all grade levels on February 9, 2013.
Middle School students interested in West Sound Academy are invited to Middle School Scholarship Day on Saturday, December 8, 2013. Applicants will come for an abbreviated school day and take part in classroom activities with West Sound Academy teachers and current Middle School students as their classmates. The day's schedule will include all the Middle School subjects: Science, Math, English, History, Foreign Language, Art, and Physical Education. The school will provide lunch for all attendees, and the Upper School Music Ensemble will perform during a morning assembly.
Participation in Middle School Scholarship Day qualifies students to be considered for merit scholarships. Eligible students are entering Grades 6, 7, or 8 in Fall, 2013 and are not currently enrolled in West Sound Academy. Parents must complete the Middle School Scholarship Day Registration Form and return it to the school no later than December 5, 2012 in order for their child to participate in this event. West Sound Academy's fourth annual Founders’ Scholarship Day takes place on Saturday, February 9, 2013. This event honors the school's founders, Dr. Edward Frodel and Dr. Gordon Parke, and offers outstanding students the opportunity to earn an annually renewable merit scholarship of up to $6,000. Any student who is interested in attending WSA should consider taking part in this qegkj special event. Applicants come to the WSA campus and demonstrate their skill and talent in up to two of the following areas: math, science, essay writing, creative writing, visual arts, and performance arts.
There are two, 45-minute evaluation sessions scheduled between 9:00 and 11:15 a.m.; students may participate in one or both. Within two weeks after Founders' Scholarship Day, all the participants are notified and may be asked to meet with a WSA representative for an interview. This is an opportunity for students to share about their talents and interests outside of the classroom. Applicants can bring examples of their work or demonstrate their skills. Scholarship recipients are notified by late February.
