What is the Doctrine of Signatures? It is a philosophy that began with the ancients and with the way health epidemics are spreading it is no wonder we are focusing on this philosophy today.

Nov. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- The theory that nature provides clues as to the beneficial uses of plants is known as The Doctrine of Signatures.  A famous Naturopathic Physician once said that when you see poison ivy in the wild, of course, avoid it.  Yet, if you look around you will see Comfrey Root not far from it, as it is the antidote to Poison Ivy. The earliest known references to this theory are the writings of ancient physicians. Some 1,400 years later The Doctrine of Signatures was expanded upon by several authors of note.

It has been noted by physicians during the earlier part of the 16th century that simply by looking at the appearance of a plant, such an observation, provides a clue, or signature, which indicates its beneficial medicinal use.  As an example, Red Clover has a cluster of small red nodules in the shape of a drop of blood.  Red Clover is an excellent blood cleanser and is very effective against blood dis-eases.

Today researchers are focusing more resources on the study of whole foods; this concept is once again coming into focus.  Whole foods, which also can be found in nature, have vital nutrients which aid the body regain, maintain and improve overall health.  The latest scientific research offers a good bit of anecdotal evidence suggesting that The Doctrine of Signatures does hold true in many cases, including signatures that appear at a microscopic level.

New research reveals that eating more fresh organic fruits and vegetables can help men and women boost their fertility. These findings indicate the more produce a man consumes, the healthier his sperm for conceiving a child.  For the woman, the more she consumes, the healthier her eggs and uterus will be for having a healthy pregnancy. This data confirms the advice given by ancient physicians.  In a study group of infertile men, 83 percent of them were eating less than five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Therefore, the men who ate the fewest fruits and vegetables had the lowest sperm count.

Antioxidants are prevalent in brightly colored produce such as broccoli, leafy greens, tomatoes, peppers and oranges, and are associated with strong, healthy sperm and eggs.  Antioxidants are essential for fighting free radicals in the body which can cause dis-ease.  It is recommended that men hoping to father children, as well as, women who want a healthy pregnancy eat at least 5 servings of fresh organic fruits and vegetables a day.

The modern day research continues to confirm what our ancestors knew.  The clues on how to be healthy are all around you and can be found in nature.  Focus on giving your body what it needs, naturally – it knows how to do the rest. Make 5 to 10 servings of fresh organic fruits and vegetables per day your goal.  By being an example for your children, you will lead them towards a life of health, happiness, vitality, and longevity.
