My Hair Growth offers bimatoprost, the latest treatment for scalp hair loss

Research published this month shows that bimatoprost can regrow scalp hair

Oct. 31, 2012 - PRLog -- A recent bimatoprost hair loss study has shown that the treatment is effective at promoting hair regrowth.

Professor Randall from the University of Bradford carried out an indepth study on the use of bimatoprost as an agent to promote hair regrowth. He took skin samples from the scalp of men that were undergoing hair transplants and treated the skin with bimatoprost. He found that these samples grew 30% more hair after 9 days of treatment.

He followed this up by using the treatment on mice that have been bred to suffer male pattern baldness and found that the treatment was also effective.

The research team found that bimatoprost acted independently from androgen mediated hair growth mechanisms. This means that bimatoprost provides an additional treatment pathway for hair loss.

"Mylash has offered bimatoprost as a treatment to grow eyelashes since we were founded in 2007. Naturally, I get asked often if it works on the scalp. I have found that it is an excellent addition to a treatment program to minimise hair loss and I was glad to read this research that supports my findings."
Dr Walker, medical director and founder of My Hair Growth and Mylash.

Dr Walkers summary of the paper:

Positives

● This paper adds to existing evidence for the use of bimatoprost for hair loss.
● Human tissue from men suffering from male pattern baldness was used.
● Hair grew one third more than untreated samples.

Negatives

● The lead scientist is paid by the drug manufacturer.
● Not done on humans over a substantial period of time.
● Not used on any females in this study.

"I think that it continues to add to the existing evidence that bimatoprost hair loss treatment is effective. It does not effect the hormonal system making it an excellent candidate for use in both male and female hair loss treatment regimes. I believe this will be the next FDA approved hair loss treatment - the only others being minoxidil and finasteride."
