Follow on Google News | Swansea’s Community groups are hard at work in readiness for this year’s Christmas ParadeCommunity groups in Swansea are busy preparing for the 2012 Christmas Parade and Lights Switch On
By: City and County of Swansea With the support of the City and County of Swansea’s Community Buildings Team, Bonymaen Kids Play Initiative, Doodles, Montana Park Community Centre, Townhill Kick Boxing Club and Rural Youth Clubs are currently working on their floats which this year are following a ‘Toyland of Yesteryear’ theme. Cllr Nick Bradley, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said, “Once again we are working with a number of community groups from all over Swansea to decorate their floats for the Christmas Parade. It is always a popular event and is a fantastic opportunity for communities to come together and create something special which will be shown off to the people of Swansea.” Sue Reed, Community Recreation Development Manager, said, “The groups involved have really invested so much time in decorating their floats. Each group is now in the final stages and are just putting the finishing touches to their designs. Everyone is very excited and really looking forward to showing off their hard work in the parade.” In total, seven floats will make up the body of the procession accompanied by marching bands, dance groups and festive street entertainers including Samba Tawe, the ATC marching band, Bikeability, Dixie Land Jazz Band and Father Christmas himself. The Community groups will also be joined in the procession by St. Phillips Community Centre on the Bay Rider land train, the Bumbles of Mumbles float and the City and County of Swansea’s own Waterfront Winterland float. The Christmas Parade and Lights Switch On is supported by Nation80s and is part of a fantastic weekend of entertainment to celebrate the start of Christmas in Swansea. Swansea launches Christmas on Friday 16 November when Waterfront Winterland returns to the grounds of the National Waterfront Museum until 6 January followed by a Swansea Christmas Cracker - a day of fun in the City Centre on Saturday 17 November and the official start to the Christmas festivities, the Christmas Parade and Lights Switch, on Sunday 18 November starring Santa himself.
