Oct. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- Driven by Cairns Regional Council together with Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree (TPDD) , it is the third time this innovative program designed to entice locals to holiday in their own backyard has been made available to residents.

TPDD executive officer Doug Ryan said: “Following the success of previous Smart Cards, which allow free travel on the Daintree Ferry for locals living in the Cairns region, this program will be rolled out further afield to the Tablelands as well as south along the Cassowary Coast to Mission Beach.

“This initiative is very important for our self drive market and also for the visiting friends and relatives market.”

Mr Ryan said a Smart Card Specials brochure, put together by TPDD, would also be issued by council and provided to everyone who applied for a new card as well as current holders.

It features a comprehensive map, travel tips as well as more than 20 exclusive deals and incentives for those travelling with a Smart Card.

“The Smart Card Specials brochure has been designed to motivate visitors to come back. There is so much to do in Daintree and Cape Tribulation that no visit is ever the same. Whether you are planning a romantic rainforest getaway or a fun filled family trip, Daintree is the ideal place,” Mr Ryan added.

The Smart Card was previously available to all Cairns Regional Council residents for a two-month period from November 15 to January 15 as well as during Easter this year.

To apply for a Smart Card residents need to visit their local council office  or log onto the CRC website and download an application form at http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/47658/DaintreeFerryApplicationNov12-Feb13.pdf
