Oct. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- (VENTURA COUNTY, Calif.) – Ventura County residents will have a second chance to catch the Ventura County Ballet Company’s ( (VCBC) beloved production of “The Nutcracker” this holiday season as the esteemed ballet company makes its way to the Ventura College Performing Arts Center for an additional weekend of performances on Saturday, Dec. 1, and Sunday, Dec. 2.

Audiences will be in awe of the theater’s redesign as they enjoy the whimsical story of a world of life-sized mice, dancing sweets and of course, no fairytale would be complete without a magical prince. Staging and video effects will sprinkle the classic production with modern flair and a snow scene that will dazzle crowds as characters pirouette through twinkling flurries and dance to Tchaikovsky's immortal score. College students with the Ventura College Symphony Orchestra and the Ventura College Choir will create a live and interactive musical complement to the choreography.  

To help bring the beloved holiday classic to life, VCBC has invited Russian-born ballet prodigy, Sergey Kheylik (, to headline the highly anticipated event for its inaugural production at the Ventura location for the coveted role as the Nutcracker Prince.

Kheylik has 19 years of professional dancing experience performing for some of the most renowned ballet companies in the world. His career soared in 2002 when he danced for the Universal Ballet in Korea and joined the Vienna State Opera Ballet in 2003.  Over the past five years, Kheylik impressive body of work includes dancing with Cirque Du Soleil, Los Angeles Ballet, Odyssey Dance Ballet Theater, South African Ballet Theater and Hong Kong Ballet. The acclaimed dancer currently works as a freelance artist sharing his talent in different galas and festivals internationally. Most recently, he performed with Rasta Thomas’s Rock the Ballet, which was featured in recording artist Sting’s charity event at the Carnegie Hall, performing onstage alongside the biggest names in music such as Elton John, Bruce Springstein and Lady Gaga.

“We’re so honored to be able to work with some of the industry’s most praised dancers every year for our annual holiday production,” said Kathleen Noblin, executive director of the VCBC. “Sergey is an outstanding talent and has been a major influence on our young pre-professional dancers who aspire to dance internationally as he has.”

When: 2 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 1 and 1 p.m. on Dec. 2

Where: Ventura College Performing Arts Center, 4700 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, Calif.

Cost: Adults: $10 - $25. Children: 10 years and under $12 (excludes Center Orchestra). Seniors: 65 and older $17 (excludes Center Orchestra). A sugar plum cookie reception will follow each matinee and is complimentary to ticket holders.

Celebrating its 18th year, the Ventura County Ballet Company presents two to three large scale productions each year. The productions feature professional dancers as well as VCBC pre-professionals, students from Ballet Academy Ventura, the official school of the VCBC.
