Oct. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- University and college students interested in Microsoft’s 2013 Imagine Cup Student Technology Competition are encouraged to register early for the opportunity to win a free Xbox bundle, as well as to be entered for a chance to win one of three cash prizes ($50k, $10k, or $5k) and a free trip to St. Petersburg, Russia. As the self-proclaimed “world’s most prestigious student competition,” the Imagine Cup challenges student teams to create the next greatest video game, innovation, or app to make the world a better place.

To enter, students must visit http://www.imaginecup.com/, go to the top right corner of the page, and then click “Sign Up / Sign In.” From there, students must fill out the brief form using their “.edu” email address and the referral code IC13. Only by using a .edu address and the referral code IC13 will students be entered to win the preregistration Xbox bundle.

“If you have any interest in this programing competition, it makes sense to enter now,” explained, Marc Sorel, college marketing industry expert. “You’ll have immediate access to Microsoft’s resources and the added perk of getting entered for a chance to win an Xbox bundle.”

Groups of 1 to 4 can enter the competition and can select a professor as a group mentor. The entry categories are 1) World Citizenship, in which students must make an app that could change someone’s life 2) Games, in which students are challenged to create the next great video game, and 3) Innovation, in which student must transform an existing infrastructure, such as online shopping, social media, etc..

The competition is offering the biggest prizes ever this year to college technology students: $50k for 1st prize, $10k for 2nd prize, and $5k for 3rd prize. Additionally, all finalists and their mentors receive a free trip to St. Petersburg Russia. Posters and flyers promoting the competition, and the early registration perks, have been seen across U.S. colleges from Arizona State and the University of South California to Boston College and Harvard University.

Rachel Noah, a college marketing professional, said that this is the most excited she has seen students about this international competition. “It is great to see all kinds of universities and colleges joining in,” she said. “UCLA, Michigan State, Northeastern… So many other schools too, are all very excited!”
