Trampoline Bounceboard® Aids Athletes in Air Awareness Training

Oct. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- How does an athlete push the limits of a sport like wakeboarding, snowboarding, or surfing when it appears as though athletes have pushed these action sports to their pinnacle? Red Bull USA’s Aerial Awareness Training Coaches are tapping into the newest trampoline training aid, the Bounceboard®,  to empower athletes to push new boundaries with trampoline training.

“Trampoline training has really made me more aware of my body positioning when I’m up in the air,” said Carissa Moore, 2011 ASP World Surf Champion.  “It has also taught me how to speed up my rotations and slow down my rotations and stay centered over my board which is essential when I try to do it in the water.”  

Carissa recently met up with Matt Christensen, professional Air Awareness Coach, who leads the Red Bull USA’s Air Awareness Training Program, for a few “off-season” training sessions. These trampoline training sessions, at the YMCA Gymnastics Center in southern California, helped Carissa hone her aerial surfing techniques and push new boundaries with the Bounceboard®.

“So when Carissa hits the lip she launches back into the whitewater. We are trying to get the same feeling on the trampoline,” said Matt.

Matt is a master at implementing and developing new methods for aerial training and one of his newest tools is the trampoline Bounceboard®. The Bounceboard® is a high density EVA foam, snowboard shaped trampoline board.  It allows users to safely practice and simulate aerial maneuvers with a board strapped to their feet.

“The air awareness camps can greatly benefit Carissa’s surfing in the future, “ said Shane Beschen, Carissa’s surfing coach.

Trampoline training is not only a large part of Red Bull’s training program but other aerial training programs as well. Camp Woodward, which operates out of six different locations across the US, also uses Bounceboard® products to train athletes on trampolines.

The Bounceboard® is also used in trampoline parks throughout the world. These facilities provide an exciting new venue to give competitive athletes the airtime to perfect their moves. Now, with the Bounceboard®, they are able to safely simulate a trick and get comfortable with spinning, flipping, and landing with a board on their feet.

Bounceboard® products, which include the Skate, Classic and Pro model, are paving the way for action board sport aerial trampoline training.  Prior to these products it was common practice to use hard snowboards with tapped edges or wood skateboard decks for trampoline training. Trampolines did not hold up to the impact of these hard objects not to mention the added dangers to the user having a hard ridged board strapped to their feet while jumping on a trampoline. The Bounceboard® has solved this problem and is proving that the limits of the action sports industry is constantly evolving and progressing for the better.
