"Since 1975, Pro Karate Center has been providing instruction in Karate and the martial arts in the Palm Harbor, Dunedin, Ozona, East Lake, Tarpon Springs and Clearwater, Florida areas. The Pro Karate Center provides a safe and family-oriented martial arts experience for students of all ages. Our greatest responsibility is to instill in our students a sense of discipline and a code of ethics to inspire them to lead exemplary lives as leaders in the community. Our purpose is to empower all who desire to accomplish their goals by enabling each to achieve his or her potential. Our mission is to serve our members, their families, and our community, by utilizing all of our skills and talents to help you or your child develop him or herself in a healthy and progressive manor. Our instructors are dedicated to passing along skills, enthusiasm, and confidence to each and every student. We feel our programs are the best the area has to offer featuring well-organized classes for children, teens, and adults. Pro Karate Center is a sound business and a program our students are proud of. The Pro Karate Center was established to promote good mental health, physical fitness, and self-defense through the Okinawan style of karate, Isshinryu. Isshinryu's main objective is the perfection of oneself through both mental and physical development. As students learn the art of self-defense, they acquire self-confidence, humility, and the ability to concentrate. Isshinryu combines a well-rounded exercise program with important advantages over other styles. Pro Karate Center is headed by Dean Lavas and a staff of expert instructors and managers, which also includes Gary Repetti, Desiree and Nathan McKnight. Pro Karate Center offers a number of programs for physical fitness and instruction in Karate." Excerpt from the publication, "The Ultimate Beginners Guide to Martial Arts." Q.) Why did you decide to teach Isshinryu? A.) Before coming an instructor and the owner of Pro Karate Center, I studied Isshinryu karate for many years. While training, I realized that Isshinryu is much more than punching and kicking, it's about respect and a way of life. The self-defense portion is a bi-product of Isshinryu karate. The main focus is respect! Q.) Why do you prefer this form of martial arts? A.) When I started out looking for a martial arts school, I was looking for a traditional karate school with roots in Okinawa Japan, where karate originated. I checked out several schools and styles. I was attracted to Isshinryu because it was a very realistic and close-in self-defense methodology.
