Bentek: Less natural gas supply, more demand in Canada signals stronger cash basis this winter

Bentek’s Canadian Observer tracks the most prevalent factors impacting Canadian natural gas cash basis

Oct. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- EVERGREEN, CO (October 24, 2012) – Bentek Energy’s Canadian Observer reports Canadian natural gas cash basis this winter is expected to be stronger than last winter.  Bullish price signals this month are being driven by a 1-Bcf/d natural gas production decline in West Canada compared to October 2011. Year-over-year demand increases in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec may also support prices if temperatures are colder than last year’s exceptionally warm winter. Bentek reports less production and more demand will tighten the supply/demand balance, forcing prices to remain high enough to support stronger-than-average storage withdrawals through March, 2013. However another warm winter could push prices to all-time lows, adding to record-high storage inventories and affecting imports to major U.S. demand markets.
