Oct. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- CHICAGO – (October 21, 2012) – McGladrey LLP (http://www.mcgladrey.com/), the nation’s fifth largest provider of assurance, tax and consulting services, and title sponsor of The McGladrey Classic (http://www.mcgladreyclassic.com/), congratulates Tommy Gainey,  winner of the 2012 McGladrey Classic, who shot a course record ten under par 60.

Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey is from Darlington, South Carolina and currently resides in Camden, South Carolina. Tommy goes by the nickname "Two Gloves" because he wears two golf gloves when he plays (which is very uncommon on the PGA TOUR). He developed that habit after playing baseball as a kid and still continues it to this day. Gainey attended Central Carolina Technical College after high school and worked as an assembly line worker in rural South Carolina before deciding to give professional golf a shot. Gainey was a participant on Golf Channel's "Big Break V" and later won "Big Break VII." He lists his heroes as Fred Couples and rock band Hootie and the Blowfish.

Gainey has never won a PGA TOUR event, and has two Web.com victories in his career – his last in 2010. He first competed on the PGA Tour in 2008 and played full-time on the Web.com Tour in 2010. His two Web.com victories that year put him in 4th place on the money list and secured his PGA TOUR card. He has been playing full time on the PGA TOUR since he secured his card in 2010.

His best finish on TOUR in 2012 is 3rd at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. Gainey finished 94th in the FedEx Cup Standings in 2012 and is 108th on the money list, which puts him in great position to get his 2013 PGA TOUR card.

In the 2012 McGladrey Classic, Tommy Gainey broke the course record with a 60. He is the first player to shoot 60 in the final round of a PGA TOUR event since 2001. Gainey's 60 is the sixth on TOUR since 2007 (Zach Johnson has two of them).

“It is a pleasure to welcome Tommy to the McGladrey ‘family,’ as winner of the third annual McGladrey Classic,” said Joe Adams, managing partner and CEO of McGladrey. Tommy now joins Ben Crane (http://mcgladrey.com/News-Releases/McGladrey-Congratulate...) and Heath Slocum as part of the history of McGladrey, where, much like in the game of golf, the values of integrity, teamwork, respect, excellence and stewardship guide our daily operations. Congratulations, Tommy!”

“Like the first two years, this third year of The McGladrey Classic was a success by any measure,” said Bob Gerardi, chief marketing officer for McGladrey. “We knew the bar was set high for this year’s event, and once again it exceeded all expectations. Many of our clients and potential clients enjoy watching and playing the game of golf, and The McGladrey Classic continues to be a great opportunity for us to connect with them.”

The 2012 McGladrey Classic included two new elements: a concert by country music artist Gary Allan, which attracted thousands of fans, and a golf clinic for children, hosted by last year’s McGladrey Classic winner Ben Crane. Other highlights included a putting contest with McGladrey leaders, PGA TOUR professionals and participants from Special Olympics and Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia; and Military Appreciation Day. Proceeds from this year’s McGladrey Classic will benefit Special Olympics, the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia and other local charitable organizations.

“We’d like to thank the 1,200 volunteers who made this year’s tournament such a success, and shared their Southern hospitality with a record crowd who joined us here at Sea Island,” said Adams. “The real winners this week are the Sea Island community and the charities that benefit from The McGladrey Classic through the Davis Love Foundation. We look forward to returning next fall.”
