Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire – 1st November 2012 – Diglot Books Ltd has just released “Eddie”, a new children’s book by Richard O’Hagan, to be available through Amazon.co.uk and bookstores from November.
“Eddie,” is the first in a series of 3 books, inspired by bedtime with Richard’s five year old son William. “As much fun as reading a story to my son is at bedtime, I wished that there was a book out there that was interesting and fun for both the parent and the child. I couldn’t really find any, so instead I wrote my own.” Richard, who originally comes from Leamington Spa in Warwickshire, also writes about sport for a number of publications across the world.
The book “Eddie” stars a Welsh sheep from the town of Llanfartoomanyvowels who dreams of driving Farmer Jones’ tractor. The inclusion of subtle adult humour and famous racing drivers like Jenson Mutton the sheep, Lewis Ham-Elton the pig, and Stirling Moo’s the cow, make this book ‘a must’ for any fans of racing cars.
According to Diglot Books founder Alison O’Dornan (based in Beaconsfield, Bucks) “When I first read Richard’s story I likened it to the ‘Shrek’ of bedtime reading. It has everything to entertain both the child and the adult, it really is wonderfully funny, and the illustrations bring the story to life in bright and colourful pictures. I was delighted to be able to publish this book.”
The book which is being published in a bilingual format initially in Welsh and English will also be published later in languages like French, Spanish and Italian as part of Diglot’s mission to encourage parents to introduce their children to a second language from an early age. “I think from the reactions we have had so far we may also be publishing an English only version of the book very soon as well, it looks like it is going to be a sell-out.” To find out more visit www.diglotbooks.com

Notes to Editors
Keep it simple and fun when introducing your children to a second language is the advice from Diglot Books. The brain child of Beaconsfield based Alison O’Dornan and Dutch friend Wilma van Riel, Diglot Books have created a unique series of ABC bilingual alphabet picture books, flash cards, nursery rhyme CD’s and story books.
The best age for a child to learn a foreign language is during infancy when the brain is wired for learning new sounds and anything new is both fun and exciting. Whilst it obviously helps if the parent is able to speak the second language themselves, it is not vital, and both parent and child can learn together.
Young children grasp a new language as easily as their first language; they learn to think in the new language without the need for translation. Initially, children do not even distinguish between the two languages but simply learn that an object has two different sounds associated with it. With Diglot Books children can learn through imitating, listening, seeing and practicing.
Diglot Books are expanding their product range and support tools for monolingual parents as well, and provide audio files to aid pronunciation for all their products. New products include a unique series of flash cards, a fun, tried and tested way for children to learn key words in two languages and a nursery rhyme CD which includes popular tunes and useful vocabulary with each song sung once in English and once in the second language.
Diglot Books were the winners of the Modern Foreign Language category of the Practical Pre-School Awards 2012 and also the Best New Product at the Wales Spring Fair 2012. They also appeared briefly on the brand new TV series Be Your Own Boss (BBC Three).
