Smoking and Gum Disease

Although cigarette smoking may impact the teeth cosmetically, it’s the gums that are of major concern. The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research reports:

“Smoking is one of the most significant risk factors associated with the development of gum disease. Additionally, smoking can lower the chances for successful treatment.”
