By: YottaMark The new patent, U.S. Patent No. 8,240,564, covers an apparatus for associating individual clamshells to master cases during package manufacture and labeling to simplify traceability applications. The clamshells are pre-labeled with traceability codes, and those clamshells are assigned to a master case during manufacture. YottaMark’s innovation completely eliminates the need for additional labor in the field or packinghouse to capture critical harvest and product data and make those packages traceable. The invention covered by this patent has been incorporated into package manufacturing facilities across the US, Latin America and Asia, and has been used to reliably produce hundreds of millions of traceable clamshells annually. As retailers and consumers increasingly expect produce to be traceable at the unit level, this innovation makes it easy for producers of field-packed produce to meet those needs without disrupting their operations or increasing labor costs. “Making field-packed products traceable to the item-level had previously been prohibitively labor-intensive and time-consuming,” The ‘564 patent is the result of YottaMark’s continued investment in technology and process innovation. YottaMark technology and the HarvestMark platform continue to bring the company’s fresh food customers cost-effective, reliable solutions that make traceability simpler, more accurate and more useful, so customers can easily comply with standards, and win with quality and freshness.
